Statement of Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez on Naming Of 21 New Cardinals

In the name of the faithful of the Church of Philadelphia, I extend prayerful congratulations to the 21 new Cardinals created by Pope Francis. In a special way we pray for those with close ties to the United States. Cardinal-designate Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, and Cardinal-designate Robert Prevost, Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and a native of Chicago, will be formally elevated to the College of Cardinals by Pope Francis in September.

Let us all join in expressing gratitude to Pope Francis for making these appointments and in praying for all those preparing to accept this new role in service to the Universal Church.
