About Philadelphia Police Captain Lou Campione

Captain Lou Campione began his nearly 49-year career with the Philadelphia Police Department in 1977 as a patrol officer in the 17th District in South Philadelphia. He rose through the ranks as a corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, and was promoted to captain in 2002.

Throughout his career, Captain Campione has been admired and respected by colleagues and community members across Fishtown, Kensington, Center City, and South Philadelphia. He is known for leading by example, regularly responding alongside officers in dangerous situations and maintaining a strong, visible presence in the community. As captain of the 26th District and later the 1st District, he was often seen assisting school children at intersections and participating in community events.

Captain Campione has also dedicated himself to supporting fellow officers and their families. As a Bereavement Officer and Chaplain, he attends funeral services for current and former officers, presenting their families with a Bible and offering words of consolation. In his role as Behavioral Health Program Coordinator, he assists officers facing personal and professional challenges, providing support at any time of day.

He holds a certification in Crisis Intervention Stress Management, a Bachelor of Arts from Temple University, and a Master’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Captain Campione is recognized for his deep commitment and dedication to God, the Church, the Philadelphia Police Department, and the broader Philadelphia community.
