Our Auxiliary Bishops bring diverse experiences and perspectives that reflect the richness of our region. United by a steadfast commitment to service, they support the Church’s mission across parishes, schools, and community outreach.

The Most Reverend John J. McIntyre
Bishop John J. McIntyre was born in the Germantown section of Philadelphia on August 20, 1963 to Thomas and Blanche McIntyre, parishioners of St. Michael of the Saints Parish in Germantown followed by Resurrection of Our Lord Parish in Rhawnhurst. Bishop McIntyre attended Father Judge High School, Philadelphia. He was in formation for the Redemptorist Order and graduated from Saint Alphonsus College Seminary in Suffield, Connecticut in 1986 and completed one year of theological studies at Washington Theological Union. He entered Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in September of 1989. He earned a Masters of Divinity from Saint Charles in 1991. He was ordained a priest in 1992.
Bishop McIntyre served as a parochial vicar at two parishes of the Archdiocese then served as secretary to the Archbishop from 1999 to 2010. In 2003, he was named Chaplain to His Holiness with the title of Monsignor, and in 2005 a Prelate of Honor. He has served on the Archdiocesan Admissions Board for Saint Charles Seminary, the Council of Priests, and as chaplain to the Sisters of Mercy in Merion.
He was ordained an auxiliary bishop of Philadelphia on August 6, 2010.
Bishop McIntyre is entrusted with pastoral care of Episcopal Region I of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, which encompasses the parishes of Delaware and Chester counties.
Bishop McIntyre also has administrative responsibilities for the Ministry of Charity. He exercises leadership and authority over the secretaries and directors responsible for supporting those areas of the ministry, including Catholic Charities of Philadelphia.

The Most Reverend Keith J. Chylinski
Bishop Keith J. Chylinski was born in Schenectady, NY in 1971. During his childhood, he moved to Hamden, Connecticut, and later to Strafford, Pa. He attended Conestoga High School in Berwyn and then Temple University, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree. He was the music director at Corpus Christi Parish in Lansdale for several years before entering priestly formation at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in 2001. He earned a Master of Divinity degree in 2006 and a Master of Arts degree in Theology in 2007. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia by Cardinal Justin Rigali on May 19, 2007.
After five years in parish ministry Bishop Chylinski studied clinical psychology and received his Master of Science degree in 2014 from the Institute for the Psychological Sciences in Arlington, Virginia. That same year he was appointed to the faculty of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. In 2022 he was appointed rector of the seminary and oversaw the transition to its new location in Lower Gwynedd.
He was ordained an auxiliary bishop of Philadelphia on March 7, 2024.
Bishop Chylinski is entrusted with pastoral care of Episcopal Region II of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, which encompasses the parishes of Montgomery County.
Bishop Chylinski also has administrative responsibilities for the Ministry of Catholic Education. He exercises leadership and authority over the secretaries and directors responsible for supporting the Office for Catholic Education, including elementary schools, secondary schools, and schools of special education. In that role, he also maintains relationships with Catholic colleges and universities in our local Church.

The Most Reverend Christopher R. Cooke
Bishop Christopher R. Cooke was born on November 8, 1973, to Randall Cooke and Mary Lou Cooke and grew up in Saint Vincent de Paul Parish in Richboro. Prior to entering the program of priestly formation at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Bishop Cooke earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware in 1996, and subsequently worked for four years in the chemical manufacturing industry. While studying at the seminary, he earned a Master of Divinity degree in 2005 and a Master of Arts degree in 2006. He was ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal Justin Rigali on May 20, 2006.
Bishop Cooke provided pastoral ministry at several parishes of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia before serving in various roles at the seminary since beginning in 2013. He also served on the Archdiocesan Council of Priests from 2011 to 2014.
He was ordained an auxiliary bishop of Philadelphia on March 7, 2024.
Bishop Cooke is entrusted with pastoral care of Episcopal Region III of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, which encompasses the parishes of Bucks County. Together with Bishop Edward Deliman, Bishop Cooke also assumes pastoral responsibility for the Spanish-speaking Catholic community, which is spread over many parishes in all of the Episcopal Regions.
Bishop Cooke also has administrative responsibilities for Ministry to Hispanic Catholics, in conjunction with Bishop Deliman. The bishops exercise leadership and authority over the secretaries and directors responsible for supporting those areas of the ministry.

The Most Reverend Efren V. Esmilla
Bishop Efren V. Esmilla was born on June 18, 1962 to the late Cristobal and Crispina Esmilla. Prior to entering the program of priestly formation at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from San Beda College in Manila, the Philippines, in 1984. He earned a Master of Divinity degree at the seminary in 1992 and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on May 15, 1993.
Bishop Esmilla has provided pastoral ministry at several archdiocesan parishes, served in several roles at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, and served as the spiritual director for the Legion of Mary and chaplain of the archdiocesan Filipino Apostolate since 2005. He has also served as Regional Dean of Deanery 12 (Lower Northeast Philadelphia) and on the archdiocesan Continuing Formation Committee for Priests, the Council of Priests, the College of Consultors, and the Priest Personnel Board. He has served as pastor of Saint Martin of Tours Parish in Philadelphia since 2021.
He was ordained an Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia by Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez on March 7, 2024.
Bishop Esmilla is entrusted with pastoral care of Episcopal Region IV of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, which encompasses the parishes of the City of Philadelphia.
Bishop Esmilla’s administrative responsibilities consist of oversight for the Ministry of Evangelization. He exercises leadership and authority over the secretaries and directors responsible for supporting those areas of the Ministry of Evangelization.
